The Southern RI Conservation District (SRICD) is seeking an individual to serve as an administrative assistant with a special focus on communications and outreach.  The candidate will conduct web, social media, and design-related Outreach tasks in support of its various conservation programs, as well as support the SRICD District Manager and Board of Directors with administrative tasks. The ideal individual will have professional or personal experience with web and online outreach, a good attention to detail, and a passion for supporting natural resources conservation.  Must be comfortable with phone, email, and messenger/text communication and enjoy communicating with program partners, coworkers, and the general public. The specialist will have the ability to design and develop the District’s social media strategy and pursue avenues of their choosing to further the mission of the District using new media. They must also be comfortable providing administrative support to the SRICD District Manager and program staff, including preparation of files and handouts, management of office maintenance, and management of office mail and email accounts. As successful applicant will also have experience with providing support to a Board of Directors, including developing agendas and keeping meeting minutes.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage SRICD’s contact list, communications, and marketing, including monthly email newsletter 
  • Provide executive support to the Board of Directors in cooperation with the District Manager, Attend monthly evening board meetings. 
  • Post board meeting agendas and minutes in accordance with RI Open Meeting Laws
  • Participate in team meetings for grant-funded projects and create ways to support project goals using web, social media, and/or video outreach.
  • Compile and format the SRICD annual report and other programmatic reports.
  • Participate in SRICD accounting processes by depositing checks on a weekly basis.
  • Organize and participate as-needed in District events including the annual dinner
  • Assist District Manager with invoicing and reporting and associated paperwork.
  • Provide monthly financials, agendas, minutes to RISCC, manage certain other RISCC activities like Legislative Outreach events and Meet and Greets,
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills/Experience/Qualifications:

  • 10+ years experience in professional setting and Bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, marketing, environmental science, or a related field. 
  • Prior experience in digital marketing, communications, customer service, and/or office management. Strong writing ability.
  • Possess a dynamic personality, energy and enthusiasm for the position.
  • Exhibit an interest in/willingness to learn about agriculture, water quality, soil health, forestry, and other natural resources topics. 
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently in achieving positive outcomes.
  • A high degree of flexibility and ability to adapt to changing situations.
  • Awareness of the concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • A strong attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft and Google Suites, including Word and Excel, Working knowledge of desktop publishing tools.
  • Willingness to complete a background check.

Physical Demands:

  • Physical mobility: sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds.

Scope of Work: This is a 24-30 -hour per week hybrid position. The selected candidate will work primarily from home and at the Fresh Harvest Kitchen in Westerly as needed.  Exact schedule can be determined upon hire in consultation with the District Manager, but should adhere roughly to a standard office workday (ie 8-4, 9-5, or 10-6).

 

Location of work:  Base location: Southern RI Conservation District, 9 East Ave, Unit F Westerly, RI, 02891.  Occasional visits to other locations will be required. Mileage will be reimbursed to/from site visit locations. Valid driver’s license, a good driving record and reliable transportation or the ability to obtain such transportation throughout the state as needed are required.  

 

Hourly pay rate: is commensurate with experience starting at $28/hr. A $300/month QSEHRA health benefit is offered from date of hire. Paid time off (vacation and sick) and access to a Simple IRA with 3% employer match are available after a 90-day probationary period. 

Position Status: Part time -regular. 

Supervisory Relationships: This position is under the direct supervision of the District Manager.
